The 1986 FIFA World Cup was held in Mexico, with Argentina winning the tournament by defeating West Germany in the final (3-2). This edition is particularly remembered for the brilliance of Diego Maradona, especially his infamous "Hand of God" goal and the spectacular "Goal of the Century" against England in the quarterfinals. Argentina claimed their second World Cup title. Gary Lineker of England was the tournament's top scorer with 6 goals, and France finished in third place.
