Gil Eanes was a Portuguese navigator and explorer from the 15th century. He is best known for his voyages along the west coast of Africa, which were significant during the Age of Exploration. Eanes is particularly noted for successfully crossing Cape Bojador, a treacherous point off the coast of what is now Western Sahara. Many sailors before him had been deterred by the dangerous waters and myths surrounding the cape. His successful voyage helped to open new routes for exploration and trade along the African coast.
