Pedro Álvares Cabral (c. 1467–1520) was a Portuguese explorer who discovered Brazil in 1500 during an expedition to India. Born into a noble family, he was appointed by King Manuel I to lead a fleet aimed at establishing trade relations in India. On his way, Cabral made landfall on the coast of Brazil, claiming it for Portugal. After a brief stop, he continued to India, facing challenges but successfully setting up trade posts. He later fell out of favor and died in obscurity. His legacy is primarily tied to the discovery of Brazil, a pivotal moment in Portuguese colonization efforts.
