Argentina, in long form the Argentine Republic (in Spanish: Argentina and Republica Argentina), is a country in South America sharing its borders with Chile to the west, Bolivia and Paraguay to the north, Brazil and Uruguay to the northeast, and finally the Atlantic Ocean to the east and south. Its continental American territory covers most of the Southern Cone. The capital is Buenos Aires, the predominant language is Spanish, in its Rioplatense variant and the largely majority religion is Catholicism, although Judaism and Protestantism represent important confessional minorities. With an area of 2,791,810 km2, Argentina has a population density of sixteen inhabitants per square kilometer.
The peso is the currency of Argentina, ISO ARS code, and subdivided into 100 centavos. It replaced the austral on January 1, 1992 under the name of convertible peso.
