Europe is a territory generally referred to as a continent but, if we consider the Eurasian plate, it is the western part (a peninsula) of a super-continent. This means that the land limits of Europe have always been imprecise in the east because there is no relief or sea clearly dividing Eurasia. The geographical borders of Europe are therefore more political than physical.
