The 1 cent coin features a gentian, as part of a floral series, symbolising a duty to the environment and the part Austria is playing in the development of a Community environmental policy.

The 2 Cent Coin features an edelweiss, as part of a floral series, symbolising a duty to the environment and the part Austria is playing in the development of a Community environmental policy.

The 5 Cent Coin features alpine primroses, as part of a floral series, symbolising a duty to the environment and the part Austria is playing in the development of a Community environmental policy.

The 10 Cent Coin shows St. Stephen's Cathedral, one of the jewels of Viennese Gothic architecture and a popular tourist venue, is depicted on this coin.

The 20 Cent Coin features the Belvedere Palace, one of the most beautiful baroque palaces in Austria. It was here that the treaty re-establishing the sovereignty of Austria was signed in 1955, making its name synonymous with freedom.

The 50 Cent Coin shows the secession building in Vienna, illustrating the birth of art nouveau in Austria. The building symbolises the birth of a new age and represents a bridge to a new monetary era.

The 1 Euro Coin bears a portrait of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the famous Austrian composer, in reference to Austria as a land of music.

The 2 Euro Coin designed by Helmut Andexlinger of the Austrian Mint and chosen by citizens and residents of the euro area to be the common commemorative coin for 2012, features the world in the form of a euro symbol in the centre, showing how the euro has become a true global player over the last ten years. The surrounding elements symbolise the importance of the euro to ordinary people (represented by a family group), to the financial world (the Eurotower), to trade (a ship), to industry (a factory), and to the energy sector and research and development (two wind turbines). The designer’s initials, “A.H.”, can be found (if you look very carefully) between the ship and the Eurotower. Along the upper and lower edges of the inner part of the coin are, respectively, the country of issue and the years “2002 – 2012”. The coin will be issued by all euro area countries. The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European Union.
