Belgium's euro coins were designed by Jan Alfons Keustermans, Director of the Municipal Academy of Fine Arts of Turnhout. There are three series of coins in circulation. All are valid.
In 2014, Belgium introduced the third series of euro coins, which show King Philippe, his royal monogram "FP" and the country code for Belgium, "BE". The mint marks appear on either side of the year of issuance.
2,5 Euro Coin bears the Lion's Mound of Waterloo was constructed by order of King William I of the Netherlands inn honours of his son, the Prince of Orange, who later become King William II. The monument is located on an artificiel hill and rises 45 meters above the surrounding plain. The construction of the monument started in 1823 and was finished in 1826. The cast iron lion weighs 28 tonnes and rests on a 4,5 meter column, a subterranean circule of briks supports the monument. After climbing 226 steps visitors can enjoy a breathtaking view over the historical battlefield.
