The intricate design of Dance Away is inspired by two iconic figures of the legendary Viennese music and dance culture – the ‘Waltz King’ Johann Strauss II and dancer and choreographer Grete Wiesenthal, whose birthdays the coin celebrates. Born 200 years ago, Johann Strauss II is world famous for the unforgettable waltz melodies that shaped Vienna's ballroom tradition and continue to embody its lightness, joy and unique elegance. His universally adored waltz The Blue Danube has become a symbol of the happiness and carefree spirit that we all feel at New Year. Born in 1885, Grete Wiesenthal revolutionised the world of dance in the early 20th century with her modern solo interpretation of the waltz. With her distinctive physicality and intensity, she broke away from traditional conventions, bringing an expressive, dynamic and vibrant style to the stage that continues to captivate to this day. Dance Away unites the lightness and vibrancy of these two influential figures and celebrates the unique sense of liberation that dance can offer – whether in a grand ballroom or on one’s own.
