The front depicts the portrait of Tuanku Imam Bonjol, born Muhammad Shahab in 1772 in Bonjol, West Sumatra, is an Indonesian national hero known for his crucial role in the Padri War (1821-1837). Leader of the Padris Islamic reformers, he sought to purify Islam and implement Sharia law, confronting local Adat leaders and Dutch colonial forces. Despite initial successes, he was captured in 1837 and exiled until his death in 1864. His fight against colonialism and his commitment to Islamic principles left a lasting imprint, making him a symbol of resistance and reform in Indonesia.
The reverse shows a weaver's loom in the Tanah Datar region on the island of Sumatra.
