President of Nahdlatul Ulama, he played a key role in the modernization of this great Islamic organization while respecting its traditions. As Deputy Prime Minister under Presidents Sukarno and Suharto, and Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly and the People's Representative Council, he left his mark on Indonesian politics with his moderate and pragmatic approach. A respected Islamic scholar, he also contributed significantly to the spread of Islam in Indonesia, leaving a lasting legacy in both politics and religion.
The reverse side shows the Tari Gambyong dancer and Mount Bromo, located in East Java, Indonesia, is an active volcano and part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. With an altitude of approximately 2,329 meters, it is famous for its 800 meter diameter crater surrounded by a vast volcanic sand plain called the "Sea of Sand". The site is a sacred place for the indigenous Tengger people, who hold the annual Yadnya Kasada festival there by throwing offerings into the crater.
