Saint Marinus, originally a stonemason from the island of Rab (modern-day Croatia), fled to Mount Titano near Rimini, Italy, to escape persecution. In 301 AD, he founded a monastery, which became the basis for the Republic of San Marino, one of the world's oldest and smallest republics.
San Marino is a landlocked country surrounded by Italy, covering just 61 square kilometers. It operates as a unique republic with two Captains Regent as heads of state, elected every six months. The economy includes finance, industry, services, and tourism.
Saint Marinus is celebrated as San Marino's patron saint, with his feast day on September 3rd. This day features religious services, parades, and cultural events, honoring his legacy of faith, resilience, and the value of liberty, encapsulated in the nation’s motto, "Libertas."
