The front represents the Arc de Triomphe in Pyongyang, inaugurated on April 15, 1982 for the 70th birthday of Kim Il-sung, commemorates the Korean resistance against the Japanese occupation (1925-1945). Measuring 60 meters high and 50 meters wide, it is built of white granite and surpasses in size the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Decorated with sculptures and inscriptions extolling the exploits of Kim Il-sung and the sacrifices of the Korean people, it is located at the entrance to Victory Park in Pyongyang, near the Kim Il-sung Stadium. This monument symbolizes the struggle for independence and also serves as a gathering place for national celebrations as well as meeting both sides.
