Hot Springs National Park, located in Arkansas. This coin is the first in the series to commemorate the national parks of the United States. We see a fountain located in front of the Hot Springs headquarters. Hot Springs was the destination of the Dunbar-Hunter Expedition, which was sent by Thomas Jefferson in 1804. This park contains prehistoric Native American quarries. Around, a city was built in order to provide health care. This park was declared a national site on April 20, 1832, so that the 47 water sources would be preserved and could be used for therapeutic purposes and consumed. This site is the oldest to have entered the US national park system.
