Obverse: Stevan Stojanović Mokranjac (1856–1914), often hailed as the "father of Serbian music," played a transformative role in shaping Serbian national music by blending folk traditions with classical techniques. His most celebrated works, the Rukoveti ("Garlands"), are choral suites that intricately weave Serbian folk songs into sophisticated harmonies, capturing the spirit of the nation's diverse musical heritage. In addition to his compositions, Mokranjac made lasting contributions to Serbian Orthodox liturgical music and founded Serbia's first music school, helping to institutionalize music education in the country. His dedication to documenting folk music preserved traditional melodies that might have otherwise been lost. Today, Mokranjac's influence endures in Serbian music, celebrated annually at the Mokranjac Days festival in Negotin, his hometown, as a tribute to his profound cultural legacy.
