The Seine ferries have been providing crossing services between Rouen and Le Havre for centuries, playing a crucial role in connecting the two banks of the river. The lack of bridges until 1959, due to the need to allow ships to pass through to the port of Rouen, made ferries the only way to cross the Seine. Although bridges have since been built, the ferries remain an essential service for both locals and tourists. Since 2001, their management has been handled by the Seine-Maritime Department Council, and they carry around 10 million passengers each year.
