The Tower of the Lantern in La Rochelle is one of the remnants of the medieval fortifications that protected the port. Built in the 15th century and incorporated into the medieval walls, it has undergone restoration several times, notably between 1900 and 1914, and more recently in 2014-2015. These restorations preserved its historical character while adding contemporary elements, such as gargoyles representing famous cartoonists. The Tower of the Lantern remains a symbol of La Rochelle's maritime history and strategic significance.
