Forint

The Hungarian forint  (HUF, abbreviation Ft) has been the national currency of Hungary since August 1, 1946. The forint is divided into one hundred fillérs, although fillérs have no longer been in circulation since 1999. Forint is a word Hungarian which could be translated as florin which is its etymology. The Hungarian forint derives from the Florentine name fiorino d'oro. This coin was brought from Florence to Italy by King Charles Robert of Hungary. He brought master coiners from Florence who settled in Körmöcbánya, a center of gold production.
