The "nuevo sol" is the monetary unit of Peru, symbolized by "S/". It was introduced in the 1860s, but replaced during Chile's occupation of Peru, then reintroduced in the 1930s. Due to inflation, it was replaced by inti in the 1980s, then the "nuevo sol" was reinstated in 1991, replacing inti at the rate of 1 million intis for 1 nuevo sol. The currency is divided into 100 centimos and is issued by the Central Reserve Bank of Peru. In 2015, "nuevo sol" was renamed simply "sol".
