Lira

The lira was the former currency of Italy, used from ancient Roman times until it was replaced by the euro in 2002. It was introduced in 1861 after the unification of Italy to replace regional currencies. In addition to Italy, other countries such as San Marino, the Vatican City, and the Socialist Republic of Malta also used the lira. Today, the euro is the official currency of Italy and other eurozone countries.
