The Finnish Sauna Culture coin is the first coin created collaboratively with the public. Everyone had the opportunity to influence the commemorative coin's artistic design through an idea competition. The coin paying tribute to our sauna culture was then designed by Mari Metso and Erkki Vainio on the basis of the submissions.
The obverse of the coin depicts the development of the sauna from a sauna pit to the relaxing and healthy sauna experience of today. The obverse is designed by Mari Metso. The reverse of the coin bears an image familiar to many Finns: a countryside view in which the saunas are heating up. The reverse is designed by Erkki Vainio.
