The constitution of Mexico has evolved through years, shaped by periods of independence, revolutions, and social changes. Since its independence in 1821, Mexico has adopted several constitutions, including the 1824 constitution, establishing a federal republic, the 1857 constitution, reinforcing individual rights but generating political tensions, and finally the 1917 constitution, born out of the Mexican Revolution, introducing major social reforms. This latter constitution, still in effect, has marked history by guaranteeing land redistribution, nationalization of natural resources, and protection of workers' rights.
