The 1 and 2 euro coins depict a young Latvian woman in traditional costume. This design was originally used in 1929 on the 5 lat silver coin. The edge of the 2 Euro coin bears the inscription “DIEVS * SVĒTĪ * LATVIJU” (God bless Latvia).
