The design is surrounded by the inscription ‘VIII INCONTRO MONDIALE DELLE FAMIGLIE’ (The VIII World Meeting of Families), from the left to the right in semi-circle and ‘CITTA' DEL VATICANO’ at the bottom. The coin's outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.
