The Pont du Gard is a well-preserved Roman aqueduct located near Nîmes in the south of France. Constructed in the 1st century AD, it served as a crucial component of an aqueduct system that transported water over a distance of approximately 50 kilometers to the Roman colony of Nemausus (Nîmes). This remarkable Roman engineering feat consists of three tiers of arches, reaching a height of 48.8 meters, and spans the Gardon River. In 1985, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in recognition of its historical and architectural significance. Today, the Pont du Gard is a major tourist attraction, offering visitors the opportunity to explore its surroundings, learn about the history of the Roman aqueduct, and enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
