The Colossus of Rhodes was a colossal bronze statue of the ancient Greek god Helios, erected on the island of Rhodes to celebrate a military victory. It stood approximately 33 meters (108 feet) tall but was destroyed by an earthquake in 226 BC. The ruins of the statue remained in place for many years before being melted down to recover the bronze, and there is no trace of it today. The Colossus of Rhodes was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World due to its impressive size and historical significance.
