The Fukui Prefecture in Japan, prior to the establishment of the prefectural system in 1871, comprised the provinces of Wakasa and Echizen. Currently surrounded by the prefectures of Shiga, Gifu, Kyoto, and Ishikawa, it is bordered by the Sea of Japan to the north. The region is characterized by mountains to the south and experiences abundant snowfall in winter. There are discrepancies in regional classification, with some considering it part of Chubu and others of Hokuriku. Fukui Prefecture is known for its distinctive climate and snowy winters.
