The Chapel of Saint-Nicolas in Morlange-lès-Rémelange has a long and eventful history. First mentioned in 1188, it was destroyed in 1266 during a war. After restoration in 1610, it was once again destroyed during the Thirty Years' War in 1635-1636. Subsequently, it was abandoned, converted into a residence and stable in 1684, and then inhabited by members of the Third Order of Saint Francis in 1688.

During the French Revolution, it was sold as national property but not properly maintained. Fortunately, Prosper Mérimée revoked an order for its destruction in 1838, ensuring its preservation. The chapel was restored in 1850 and classified as a historical monument in 1845, and then inscribed on the list of historical monuments in 1846. This history highlights the perseverance of the chapel throughout the centuries despite periods of destruction and abandonment, and its recognition as a protected historical monument.
