Lucas Cranach the Younger, born in 1515 in Wittenberg, Germany, was the son of the renowned Renaissance painter Lucas Cranach the Elder. Trained by his father, he took over the family workshop after the elder Cranach's death in 1553. Lucas Cranach the Younger became the court painter for the Elector of Saxony, continuing the distinctive artistic style of the Cranach family.
Active during the time of the Protestant Reformation, his works occasionally reflected religious themes associated with the movement. He passed away in 1586 in Weimar, leaving behind a significant artistic legacy of portraits, religious paintings, and allegorical works.
