Mason bees, belonging to the genus Osmia, are a type of solitary bee in the Megachilidae family, playing a significant role in pollination. As a result, they are subject to protection measures, particularly in gardens through insect hotels specifically designed for them, known as bee hotels, bee nests, or osmiculture nests. This practice is one of the solutions proposed in response to the colony collapse disorder affecting bee populations. The genus Osmia includes 115 species in Europe, with 37 found in France, Belgium, Switzerland, and Luxembourg.
