Ahmed Zabana was an Algerian nationalist and revolutionary who played a crucial role in the struggle for Algeria's independence from French colonial rule. Born in 1926, he became a symbol of resistance during the Algerian War of Independence (1954-1962). Arrested in 1956, Zabana was sentenced to death and executed on June 19, 1956, in Algiers. His death had a significant impact on the nationalist movement, elevating him to the status of a hero and martyr in the quest for Algerian independence. Several places and institutions in Algeria bear his name in acknowledgment of his sacrifice.
