The As of Nîmes is an ancient coin that was minted for approximately 40 years and is categorized by numismatists into four emissions or types: I, II, III, and IV. Most of these coins were made of bronze, but some modules of the type I were known to be struck in orichalque, an alloy of copper and zinc, sometimes with a small amount of tin, giving them a golden appearance. Orichalque coins were commonly used as low-value currency for daily transactions in antiquity.
