"Square Antonin" in Nîmes, located in the Gard department, was established in 1862 to pay tribute to the Roman Emperor Antonin the Pious. It replaced the former terminal basin of the Canal de la Fontaine, which had been created about a century earlier by Jacques Philippe Mareschal, along with the gardens of the same name. This square is a historical site that commemorates the Roman heritage of the region and honors a highly respected Roman emperor.
