The Océarium du Croisic began as a small family-owned aquarium in 1968, established by Janine and Jean Auffret in their fishmonger shop. It became the "Aquarium de la Côte d'Amour" in 1972 before evolving into the Océarium in 1992 due to its increasing popularity. Over the years, it underwent numerous expansions, including the installation of penguins in 1994, the creation of the Vancouver Island exhibit in 1998, and the construction of a new building for Australian sharks in 2003. In 2016, the Pacific stingray basin was added. In July 2020, the Océarium released 30 bamboo sharks born in its basins, an exceptional initiative in the world of aquariums.
