Matilde Hidalgo was an Ecuadorian physician and women's rights activist. Born in 1889, she was the first woman in Ecuador to graduate from medical school in 1921. Hidalgo made history again in 1924 as the first woman to vote in Latin America. She played a crucial role in securing voting rights for Ecuadorian women in 1929 and advocated for women's healthcare access. Hidalgo's legacy as a pioneer for women's rights and her contributions to medicine are celebrated in Ecuador and internationally.
