Tránsito Amaguaña (1909–2009) was a prominent indigenous leader from Ecuador who dedicated her life to advocating for the rights of indigenous peoples. Born into a Kichwa-speaking peasant family, she faced discrimination and poverty but emerged as a vocal activist for social justice. Amaguaña played a pivotal role in the formation of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE) in 1986, becoming a leading voice for indigenous rights. Throughout her life, she fought against discrimination, exploitation, and for environmental conservation. Amaguaña's legacy continues to inspire indigenous activists worldwide.
