Lower Austria (Niederösterreich) is the largest federal state in Austria in terms of area and the second most populous after Vienna. It shares borders with Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and the federal states of Upper Austria, Styria, and Burgenland. It was separated from Vienna in 1922, and after an electorate survey in 1986, Sankt Pölten became its capital. The region boasts a diverse economy including agriculture, industry, and a rich cultural heritage, particularly renowned for its vineyards.
