Elephants, the largest land mammals, come in three main species: the African elephant, the forest elephant (also from Africa), and the Asian elephant. They're characterized by their imposing size, large ears, and tusks, which are actually oversized incisors. These herbivores inhabit diverse environments, from savannas to forests, and live in family groups led by an adult female, the matriarch. Communication among them occurs through vocalizations, gestures, and vibrations felt through the ground. Unfortunately, these animals face serious threats such as ivory poaching and habitat loss, leading to a decline in their populations. Conservation efforts are crucial to safeguard these magnificent creatures.
